Cigar cutter lighters come in several varieties which should suit the needs of any cigar aficionado. Many cigar smokers have a preference for a particular type of cutter. While the debate rages on among smokers, the preference usually comes down to what gives the user the most desirable results. Lighters are available which have all of the most common types of lighters attached which makes for a very convenient tool. Better quality lighters generally have better quality cigar cutters.

Cigar lighters are their own specialty field and the same characteristic extends to cigar cutters. Some individuals prefer guillotine cutters that offer a very clean and precise cut. Others will only use a guillotine with a double edge because of their preference for very large cigars. Some smokers prefer scissors-type cutters which require a bit more skill to use than their guillotine cousins. No matter what one's preference, there is likely a lighter available.

The sole exception to this are the double-bladed guillotines. These cutters can be dangerous to carry in one's pocket and, therefore, they are rarer on lighters though such devices do exist. The scissors-type cutters usually fold up into the lighter to protect the blades and the user alike. Like any high-quality cigar implement, these devices need to be cleaned and maintained properly to ensure good results.

Some guillotine cutters have double edges. These are provided on some lighters but it is much more common to see the single-edge models. This is simply a question of safety. Because the lighter is commonly carried in one's pocket, there is always the chance that one may cut themselves when blindly digging for the device. Whichever type of cutter is chosen, one must make certain that they take care of it as they would any other quality smoking implement.

A dull cigar cutter not only compromises the cut of the cigar but can actually provide a hazard to the user. Dull blades are much more likely to slip which can result in mishaps. Users are very much encouraged to make certain that their lighter's cigar cutter is kept sharp and clean. This ensures the longest possible service life, the best cuts and the most safety for the user.
